The Vintage Park Halloween Party was today. Twenty-two students attended and in the spirit of Halloween, some dressed up in costumes. They played a "Getting to Know you" Bingo with the residents and then passed out cookies and punch. The residents were happy to have a party with us and were excited to hear that we will be back to visit in November. Today the Vintage Park, Elementary School, Staff Appreciation, and School Beautification groups met. Mrs. Andrea Most, a PMS 8th grade Science teacher, led the School Beautification group. Participating students wrote inspirational messages on the sidewalks as well as picking up around the school grounds. Mrs. Most mentioned that her group did an excellent job. Mrs. Abby Hedrick, a PMS 7th grade Math teacher, led the Staff Appreciation group. Students made goody baskets, cards, and decorated bulletin boards around the school to show their appreciation for our custodians. Mrs. Hedrick reported that all of the students involved had a wonderful time and were eager to participate in future projects. Mrs. Sandi Armbruster, a PMS 8th grade Communications teacher and originator of the HOPE vision, led the Elementary School group. This meeting helped to inform students of the upcoming visit to Sunflower Elementary School. During this time students created Math games to play with the third grade students when they visit them on October 25. Mrs. Armbruster mentioned how wonderful the students were and they were excited to participate. I lead the Vintage Park group. For this meeting we discussed the Halloween Party that we would have with the residents on Wednesday, October 23 during seminar. Students worked hard making Zombie hands for goody bags. We used latex gloves, various candy, ribbon, and HOPE tags. Students also created door tags with the residents names on them with Halloween themed pictures and sayings. A great time was had by all. Today was our first HOPE activity. Mr. Larry Criddle, a Paola Middle School 7th and 8th grade Social Studies teacher took interested students to work in the HOPE Garden, which is located by the soccer practice fields on Industrial road. He along with others in the community began the garden in its current location 2 years ago.
